Family, Community, World: These three words help to define the areas of connection that we unite with the World and live out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. Family for us is the Church, Community is the greater Northwest Area, and the World is the Ends of the Earth.
Mission Statement
At Bethel Methodist, our mission is to introduce, promote and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to our church family, our community and throughout God’s world. We strive to maintain a willingness to be used by the Holy Spirit in winning people for Christ.
Introduce… We are and will be unapologetically evangelical in our approach towards transformation, calling sinners toward the new birth in Christ. But we will not settle at leaving people in the first step of their life with Jesus.
Introduce with Love – “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” – John 13:34-35
Our family is a “loving” one, helping to accentuate that grace is available to all, not only in relationships within our own family but with the community, and the world.
Promote…the word promotion is a two-fold word. The apparent word meaning to make known is our approach toward letting others know but it is also an individual and church promotion that we are understanding. One must be growing and have God’s spirit ‘promote’ them towards sanctification.
Promoting Disciples = Disciples Making Disciples – Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father Son and the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19
We believe in spiritual formation groups as our ‘Discipling’ method and currently have groups meeting throughout the week. The idea that we are all called to make other disciples is a marker of our own discipleship.
Spread… The Gospel message is one that should be multiplying in nature.
In our mission statement, we say, ‘We strive to maintain a willingness to be used by the Holy Spirit’
Spread, is equivalent of sent – “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me even so I send you.’ And when he said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ’Receive the Holy Spirit’.” – John 20:21-22
We are “a sent” people to transform our world. Our hope is to allow others to find a place to unite with God & work on creating something new. We are people dedicated to missional outreach. Our desire is not to keep people ‘coming’ to church but rather to see them ‘going’ and ‘being’ church. To take the church from a noun and put it into a verb! Our hope is to see people spread the Good News of Jesus.
Bethel Methodist Church of Oak Ridge is a member of the Global Methodist Church. Our mission through the Global Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.
